The New Mainers Resource Center at Portland Adult Education will be offering a new program, the EDUCATION ACADEMY, which will start in January 2019. This program is designed for people who are interested in entering the teaching field. Its purpose is to train foreign trained teachers and new Mainers who are interested in working in an education setting with the skills needed to be successful to work as an Educational Technician 3 or substitute teacher and to also help people who want to work toward their teacher certification.  In addition to what the Education Academy will offer, program participants will also be eligible for scholarships that will help cover the cost of college courses needed for teacher certification.

Where: Portland Adult Education, 14 Locust St., Portland
Some of the eligibility requirements for this program include:
  • English skills Language Arts 100 and above
  • Have work authorization
  • Have access to college transcripts and diplomas
  • Meet income eligibility requirements
  • 18 years and older
